RWS at the 2025 German Championships in Munich-Hochbrück
RWS-sponsored top shooters set off a veritable fireworks display last weekend in Munich at the 2025 German Championships in sport shooting. Our top athletes won gold and numerous other medals in the most important disciplines. Right in the thick of it was Florian Schmidt with our RWS test shooting range.
Women's sport pistol & air pistol
For the first time in her highly successful career, Doreen Vennekamp won the double in the Olympic pistol disciplines. However, this was not so much due to her sport pistol skills, but rather to the fact that she had never previously won the title with the air pistol. She achieved this last Friday, the first day of the German Championships, and on Saturday Doreen celebrated her expected title win with the sport pistol. For Doreen, this is an important title and an important building block on her future path: "I'm currently struggling a bit with duel shooting, even though it has always been my forte. And I was able to prove to myself that I haven't lost it, even under pressure – it has helped me a lot."
Men's air pistol
When the fifth and sixth-placed athletes at the Olympics compete in the final for the German championship title, excitement and world-class performance are guaranteed. And that's exactly what happened, as Robin Walter and Christian Reitz dominated the field in both the qualification round and the final. After a long break due to hand surgery and focusing on his studies, it was not a foregone conclusion that Robin would defend his title from the previous year: ‘I was sure that I would be among the leaders, but of course I didn't know what colour the medal would be.’ In the end, however, the two Paris Olympic participants stood alone at the top and celebrated their sport – Robin in first place, Christian in second. Third place went to Paul Fröhlich, also sponsored by RWS.

Small-bore three-position competition and men's air rifle
‘Unbelievable!’ That was the word Maximilian Ulbrich used to describe his performance in the air rifle final. The squad shooter dominated the competition from the start, defeating Maximilian Dallinger, also sponsored by RWS, setting a new German record with 254.8 rings and even beating the current final record set by China's Lihao Sheng (who set it last year at the World Cup in Munich) by 0.3 rings. ‘Theoretically, it would be a world record, but unfortunately the German Championships are not eligible for world records. But beating my own German record from last year by 1.3 is pretty cool.’ Max also successfully defended his title in the small-bore three-position competition the day before. In the final of the eight best shooters, Max demonstrated his full range of skills in all three positions – kneeling, prone and standing – and beat Colin Fix and RWS colleague Maxi Dallinger, who finished in second and third place. ‘Defending the double title is very, very cool. I don't know if anyone else has ever done that,’ said Max.
Women's air rifle
The duo of Hanna Bühlmeyer and Anna Janßen dominated the competition in the qualifying round, and in the final, the squad shooters pulled away from the field – albeit with a slight delay. They fought a close battle until the very end. The decision had to be made with the last two shots, which was more of an incentive than a burden for Anna: ‘It actually helped me even more to have a little extra motivation, a little more pressure. That usually works out quite well.’ For Anna, who took a break over the summer to focus on her studies and will be competing in the World Championships in Cairo, Egypt, in November, her performance at the German Championships is incredibly important: ‘It's incredibly helpful. Shooting simply thrives on staying in rhythm, maintaining experience and keeping in touch with your body.’ The multiple European champion was also impressed by the atmosphere: ‘It was very cool that the hall was so full. That helps immensely and gives me confidence for the coming weeks.’
Florian Schmidt was, as always, on site to support all the top athletes and represent RWS with our test shooting range and was not only able to keep his fingers crossed for the athletes, but also cheer them on.
