Skeet

According to an exactly predefined sequence it is to be fired at both single targets and doublets at altogether eight stations.

Weapons: permitted are all shotguns including their semi-automatic models, which do not exceed 12 gauge. Semi-automatic shotguns must be designed in a way, so that not more than one shotshell can be loaded into the magazine. The use of pump-action guns (so-called pump guns) is forbidden.

Ammunition: Shotshells are being used, which have a case length of no more than 70 mm in fired condition.
The diameter of the shot may be 2.6 mm maximum. The weight of the shot load may not exceed 24.5 g.
Shotshells with so-called spreader devices may not be used. Shotshells loaded with black powder are also not allowed.

Clay targets: Targets with a diameter of 110 mm (+/-1 mm), a height of 25 – 26 mm and a weight of 105 g (+/-5 g) are being used.
The targets used for the official training day and the competition day must be identical.
The targets can be of different colour (for example black, white, yellow, orange), but must have a well visible contrast to the background.

Distance, height: The adjustment of the throwing distance and height of the targets is done according to an exact statutory scheme.
The throwing distance of the targets is between 65 and 67 m. The throwing height is 4.60 m, measured at the target crossing point between the high and low house.
The targets must be hit between the two houses within the shooting limit of 40.3 m (+/-0.1 m).
The shooting sector is marked with clearly visible poles.

Aiming position: The shooter may not go into aiming position before the target becomes visible.
Until then, they have to keep their shotgun with the stock on their hip at the respective marking stripe of their shooting vest.
The preparation time at the station of the shooter until the call for the target is 15 seconds.

Competition programme: International competitions for men are carried out with 125 clay targets (five series with 25 targets each) and for women with 75 clay targets (three series with 25 targets each) (=qualification).
After that, the six best shooters participate in a final with 25 targets. With national tournaments bigger and smaller competition programmes can be tendered.
In the final, hit equities are also settled with a so-called “shoot-off”.
The shoot-off is carried out at station four with a doublet shooting in alternating order high/low house and low/high house.
The achieved score decides on the respective ranking of the competitor.
All targets – single targets as well as doublets – are thrown with a time delay between 0 and 3 seconds after the shooter called for them. Since 1968, skeet shooting is an Olympic competition.
