Buck hunting in May with RWS SHORT RIFLE cartridges and the new HAUSKEN JAKT FULL TITAN JD22f FTi silencer

The time has finally come around again: May is just around the corner, and with it, the buck hunting season opens. An event that not only experienced hunters, but also novice hunters await with great anticipation. May brings a special time in the forests and fields, and today I would like to share with you what makes this season so special.

The preparation

The last frosty days are behind us and nature is coming to life. Even a week before May 1st, the excitement is mounting: trips to the hunting grounds are becoming more frequent, because everything has to be prepared for the big day. Experienced hunters know that good preparation and knowledge of the hunting grounds are essential to be successful.

The right hunting stand

In May, the multi-year bucks have already marked their territories and established their borders, which increases our chances of success if we specifically seek out these places. In particular, the edge structures and edges where fresh green sprouts are highly coveted. Whether in dense forest or open fields, choosing the right place to hide is crucial. In the forest, group hides are often a good idea, as deer like to stay in dense undergrowth, while selective individual hunting is the preferred method in the field, in order to take known bucks in a targeted manner.

The hunt begins

When the day finally arrives, it is often still pitch dark. As you make your way to the agreed meeting point, the excitement grows. The first morning stand is a moment you won't forget in a hurry. In May, when the grass is still low, conditions are ideal for spotting roe deer and placing a clean shot.

The challenges and joys

Bock hunting in May also presents its challenges. Young yearling bucks are often still unsure about their territory, which can lead to fights. This dynamic makes the hunt exciting, but also unpredictable. It is also the time to take weaker bucks in accordance with the shooting plan and to spare the future bucks for later hunts.

The right ammunition for hunting roebuck in May – RWS SHORT RIFLE for modern rifles

In view of the increasing demand for short rifle barrels, RWS has developed the SHORT RIFLE cartridge. It is specially optimised for shooting from short barrels, without any loss of performance. This is because ammunition designed for common barrel lengths of 600 mm often shows disadvantages with shorter barrels, such as energy loss and increased muzzle flash and a louder report.

The innovatively adapted, elegantly nickel-plated SHORT RIFLE cartridge in the four successful RWS bullet lines DRIVEN HUNT, SPEED TIP PROFESSIONAL, HIT and EVOLUTION GREEN offers a special load that eliminates the disadvantages mentioned and thus enables improved performance.

A specially formulated load with aggressively burning powder, a partially adapted bullet weight and a high-performance primer are responsible for the success of these special products.

The new HAUSKEN JD 224FTi

By using a silencer, you can achieve:

Noise reduction: The powder gases flowing out of the barrel muzzle are diverted, slowed down and cooled in the silencer. This prevents the sudden expansion of the gases and reduces the muzzle blast.

Reduced recoil: Besides noise reduction, the reduction in recoil is the biggest advantage of a silencer. The gases flowing forward in the silencer hit the baffles of the silencer. This counteracts the recoil of the weapon. It also significantly reduces muzzle flip.

Improved accuracy: A suppressor is basically no different than a well-designed muzzle brake. The suppressor eliminates the bullet turbulence that can affect accuracy.

No muzzle flash: The muzzle flash takes place inside the suppressor. This means that there is no disturbing glare when shooting at dusk or at night.
